When you are trying to sell your property it is important to make sure that you put your best foot forward and make your house as appealing as possible. You want to make sure that you home really stands out as being a great value, but you also don’t want to spend a fortune to do so. The idea is to make your home look nice so that you can maximize the return you get on your investment.
Make Sure That Nothing Is Left Undone
Many people have a hard time visualizing what things will look like if they are not totally complete. For instance if you have a room that you are renovating a prospective buyer may not be able to look past the unpainted walls and missing electrical outlets to see what it will look like when complete. So make sure that everything is finished enough that your potential buyers don’t have to try to figure out what it should look like.
A Place For Everything And Everything In It’s Place
If your house is cramped and cluttered and does not have enough room for all of your stuff than any prospective buyer is going to assume that there will not be enough room for their stuff either. When preparing your home to be sold make sure that everything is put away properly and that the counters and other areas of the house do not appear to be crowded or cramped. Here are a few ways to do that:
- Clear everything off of the counters except for your coffee maker.
- Put all of your un-needed appliances into drawers or, if there is no space in the drawers, into storage.
- Put away all papers, mail, and bills. Invest in a file folder system to store your paperwork in a neat and tidy way. Put up all of your clutter, collectibles and nick knacks that are crowding the space that you have to give a feeling of space and openness.

Hi Sean,
Preparing your home to be sold is a big deal. You really have to try and see it from someone else’s point of view. Maybe it’s worth asking friends for an unbiased view once you’ve de-cluttered and preparations are finished.
They might see something you’ve missed.
aAcluttered house does look cramped and small…just cleaning up will make your house seem larger. Another couple of ways is too open some curtains and have the place well lit. A stategic mirror on the wall also will effectively double the look of the room.
