Finding A Good Real Estate Agent Part 1

by Sean Rasmussen on February 1, 2009

Finding a good real estate agent is a very important first step when you are looking to sell your home. Your real estate agent will either make your experience a pleasurable and enjoyable one, or make it an absolute nightmare. It is important to know the basics involved with hiring a good real estate agent. There is a lot to look for and this decision is not one that should be taken lightly on done on a whim. Hiring a real estate agent who will work for you and your best interests takes some time, but it will be worth it in the long run

Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help

One of the best ways to find a real estate agent is to ask friends, family members and co-workers who have recently sold a home who they used. Getting first hand information from someone who actually worked with the real estate agent is very beneficial. If the agent was not professional or did not do a good job they will tell you. On the flip side if the real estate agent was very good you will find that out too. This can save you a lot of leg work and time by helping you get started on interviewing agents to help sell your home

Open Houses Are Great Meeting Places

Another good way to find a real estate agent is to visit open houses. When you enter the home take notice of how the real estate agent carries themselves. Do they greet you? Do they answer your questions? Do they seem knowledgeable about the home that they are selling and the real estate market in general? This could be a good place to get leads on which real estate agent to interview.

Liked the third tip, visiting open homes – this way you can see the agent do his/her thing, from the perspective of a buyer. Is this the person you want selling your home?

Hi Sean,

I love your tip of going to open houses too. This way you get to meet them on their own turf. It’s an excellent way to check them out before you even talk to them about seeing if they’d be a suitable real estate agent for you.

If they don’t know what you’re really assessing; you’re much more likely to see the real them. It should be an easy enough decision from there.

Word of mouth is a powerful tool. You just have to ask the question. There are a lot of good real estate agents out there you just have to find one that is going to work well with you.

Just so you know there is a typo in the first paragraph.
